First Contact

The Earth is as we know it today more or less. No war at this time but the tensions are there and there is a great deal of competition between countries.

You will play 1 of 2 alien spacecraft coming into the solar system towards Earth for First Contact,
OR one of up to 10 earth-based countries/organizations (i.e SETI, UN, US, Russia, China, EU, etc).  Your considerations are all that you would expect. Detection, communication, economic, scientific, military, etc.

You have the full range of responses to the aliens or other countries based on your interpretation of your best interest or humanities best interest.

This game will play in a series of discussions with 5-minute time slots and 1 hour periods.

How you deal or discuss with each other is fine. There is the option of starting a nuclear war. Other wars could be started but not concluded before the aliens arrive in orbit.

The situation will change as the crafts approach earth Orbit and as the earth-based countries deal with each other.

The aliens will have their own agendas and how they play it will be up to those players.

Considerations include what is winning? Who will win? How can you win?

Will there be a Human race when the aliens arrive?

This is the first run of this game and I assume we will play it at future events with different players or people playing different countries each time. Materials will be handed out at the start of the game based on first come sign ups.

LARP:

Hot Tub Time Machine

Hot Tub Time Machine (HTTM) is a four hour theater LARP for 6 people that can be described as modern art meets the 2010’s movie by the same name. Half of the players will be accidentally traveling through time via hot tub trying to change as much - or as little - as possible, and dealing with the repercussions of their actions on a changing future. The other half will be playing linear scenes with decision envelopes at the close of each, forcing them to make choices about their future. Linear characters will have time to read the results of their decisions and change into attire appropriate for the next era while the traveling characters will continue their contiguous play in the hot tub.

None of the characters will be based entirely on real people, but they will be influenced by notable artists and events that converged in New York City between the 1950 and 1980s. Content will range from personal-scope issues such as reluctant parenthood, infidelity, alcoholism, drug use, depression, suicidal thoughts and death, to wider-scope issues including war protests, the Cold War, the AIDS crisis, and gender inequality. Players can opt out of most of these in their personal storylines via the casting survey.
